Respectfully must disagree.. This is a republic, not a pure democracy. This country was established not for oligarchic-democracy but for a republic which provides its citizens self-governance by representation. Where you had the political establishment actively prevent the representation of the people via mandates to councilors, you can hardly call that representative democracy. And after doing that, Fine Gael and their talking heads then EXPECT the unrepresented to vote for the candidate from the party which prevented those peoples’ representation… That is why people spoiled their votes. In saying that, the recent events with regard to immigration and the abuse of children and peoples' general unhappiness with government, lean to #SpoilTheVote25. Particularly for the ones who are more right leaning.

The 'spoil the vote' campaign is an explicitly far-right campaign and the media have shamefully tried to lend a veneer of respectability to it instead of exposing it for what it is.
