@pinstripedline A quite wonderful thread, Sir H. I remember seeing these guns outside the museum, I cannot put a precise date on when it was other than "late 1960s", so I was less than 10 years old and they had a striking effect on me.

The 15" guns outside of the Imperial War Museum in London are one of its most prized exhibits. They are a memorial to the 'big gun' ship. Yet the story of how they came to be there is little known but involves atomic weapons, the space race and lots of financial paperwork…

@icelandcricket Live actually bowling was Shane Bond but I've met retired blokes who were probably faster.

@WG_RumblePants There was an excellent interview on TV with Rahul Dravid after this incident where he described the dressing room conversations about what to do. He spoke very well indeed and I remember thinking it's Dravid speaking so maybe Dhoni hadn't agreed with the majority view?

Helluva moment in cricket this — I remember hearing it on TMS at the time. Didn’t appreciate what it meant then. I do now. Proper sportsmanship.

@WG_RumblePants Sorry but not a fan of all these "colourised" pictures. They're not the original, they're faked often by the blasted AI which has a clue in its name: "Artificial". I've been an avid photographer for 60 yrs and a "bu****ed" version of one of mine'd be offensive and a (c) breach.

@WG_RumblePants This is nothing new, old bean. At the Newland's Test in Jan 2005 the England fans vastly outnumbered the locals, there were over 10,000 there. They sold out the beer by Day 2. The Barmies raised a fortune for the Boxing Day Tsunami Appeal. Overall it was a Good Thing.

The last time @NorthantsCCC had two Champo victories before the end of May was in 2021 - and the common denominator is @sando567 who claimed match figures 10-99 to defeat Sussex on May 9. It was also the last season in which the County won more than twice in the competition...

@WG_RumblePants One of mine. From the 2004/5 Eng tour of SA with some bloke called Key being not very good but England winning the series (although hammered at Newlands).

@FryUpSociety He's right about one thing, the proper American freshly made hash browns NOT the fast food things. I've had numerous versions and they are great but the McDonalds things are just trash.

@qikipedia That is meaningless without proper definitions since it means more than two fresh ones per week, every week, bar none with no repetitions. Nonsense (as are much of your other posts without sources, definitions etc).

@4thslip @weymarplanet He’s not a good enough player now to get into the team on his own merits. Stokes still is due to his bowling.

@WG_RumblePants @weymarplanet There is one but in this situation you have to think captain first, player second. In terms of red ball captaincy the most qualified and successful is Burns. But would he want it?

@WG_RumblePants @weymarplanet Sorry but I am not on the bandwagon. There is no comparison with Brearley at all, he was without doubt a brilliant captain whereas Stokes just isn't. He is too fragile and his performances do not justify his place. Being a "talisman" does not win Test series. Find a new captain.

The issue with Stokes seems to be a mixture of: - he’s a talismanic player who has had some incredible, era-defining moments for England (leading to partial fan immunity) - his bowling has been very good recently. He really should be taking the new ball this summer - nobody batted that well in Australia - (most importantly) there is literally nobody else in the current squad suitable to replace him as captain

@WG_RumblePants I get where you're coming from but fine players can have the fine coached out of them by McCullum, I don't trust him with Emilio Gay at all. He is one fine Northants red ball product but he is not really a bazballer.

With the England Test squad announcement, I’m actually getting really excited for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. There are some fine players in that squad. It could be a really good, closely-fought series... You’d think I’d have learnt better by now, wouldn’t you? 🤦

@NavyLookout @JohnHealey_MP This will be another example of the UK pretending to "lead" without having to spend any money itself nor provide any meaningful resources. Another of Keir's do nothing cost nothing PR things.
