The US bases in the Gulf do not turn the Gulf into satellite states or strip their sovereignty. They’re part of mutually agreed upon defense partnerships similar to those between the US and other states in Europe and Asia. That said, this model requires a reset and the same is true regarding the Gulf’s relationship with Iran.

Wish I could. So I tell my Masters students in Government that this is the most exciting time for the next generation of political scientists: We were wrong, and our previous models and understanding of US politics were off because they didn’t account for a Trumplike anomaly. Accepted political norms of the past are now being obliterated in real-time, whether unprecedented presidential power grabs or historically shortsighted dereliction of Congress’ most basic duties of 1) war and peace 2) control over the federal 💰 pursestrings. Both political parties have now perfected fundraising off the fear of the other they peddle, so the Capitol’s now, basically, now more of a cable studio than the serious, boring even, place of contemplation and debate envisioned by America’s founders.

Israel moved the red line & forced the war.
POTUS’s original red line was no nuclear weapon for Iran. The Supreme Leader agreed & held a prohibition on a nuclear weapon since 2004. The disagreement & debate was on enrichment levels & monitoring.
The Israelis convinced POTUS that zero enrichment was the red line, the Iranians disagreed, we took out their enrichment capability w/ Op Midnight Hammer, making enrichment a dead issue.
Iran was back at the negotiating table afterwards, this was a major threat to Israel’s goal of regime change, so they forced our hand & attacked Iran, knowing Iran would then attack us, plunging us into the war.
