No! He's not pathetic at all, attaining sword saint title is not an easy feat , then you can now imagine attaining the title of a sword king. Rudeus has been surrounded with lots of power foes and allies better increasing his battle instincts, sword skills and overall skill battle wise which is not the case for luke.
