Since you’re the DWP expert @LBC relies on, can you explain where this £6,000 figure comes from? Because it doesn’t exist.
What does exist is a 4.8% state pension rise as of this month, going to many wealthier boomers living in Marbella than the working class people in genuine need who you’re criticising.

Many of us are at work today on a bank holiday, knowing full well that people on benefits have just got a bonus of £6000. I would have to work around 500 hours to get an extra 6k - they don’t have to do anything Why do we even bother

NEW: Man who identifies as a woman who was convicted of stabbing his parents and dog to death is being sued for s*xually assaulting a woman in prison. Andrew (Andrea) Balcer was sentenced to 40 years for murder and was placed in a women's correctional facility because he claimed to be a woman. According to court documents, inmate Katie Mountain is accusing Blacer of threatening to r*pe and impregnate her. She accuses Balcer of trapping her in a bathroom and forcibly kissing her. "Don't worry, if you don't wake up, it's because I smothered you with a pillow," Blacer allegedly said, according to CBS13. The woman says she was transferred to segregation and denied medication after she refused to bunk with Balcer and says she no longer qualifies for early release because of the incident.

Pensioners may wish to consider that responding to working people’s struggles with contempt and vitriol, as evidenced in the replies, might not be a great long-term strategy if they want to keep their benefits.

People don't stay young forever, the young will age and like some old fable discover that it's them that won't get that State Pension they gleefully campaigned to abolish to annoy the boomers. That's the cautionary tale.

Pensioners aren't a static group, every year some die, and new ones reach pension age. But you're right unless YOU protect pensions you won't have any. Be careful what you seek to destroy.

Its unsustainable to have above inflation increases. As for the other benefits to non contributes I agree its a bigger problem.

Remember the state pension is a contributory benefit and is taxable, so it's only fair that benefits should go the same way, no? Direct your anger at those in charge, not old people.

Ah yes - Sandy. A young and aspirational graduate, say, with a job at the Barclays in Canary Wharf, should definitely move a 3-hour commute away from London - to a place where they have no friends, no family and no support network.

27% are millionaires, mostly via property, but most have no private pension and rely entirely on the state, which is in deep distress.
This system is going to forcibly correct via collapse, whereby pensioners will sell off their properties at discounted rates (probably to asset managers).
The state pension will either cease to exist or become means tested.
I'm not saying this to be hurtful, this is just the way it's going to go. And if I was a pensioner I'd feel pretty angry that this is coming because I *thought* I had done the right thing for my whole life.
Today's pensioners will soon end up betrayed by the system just like the youth have been already.
