@Om_Codes_ He built a site that terrified billion dollar corporations, joked about hosting it in space, and the only people who couldn't take a joke were the ones writing the lawsuits

- Meet Gottfrid Svartholm - Co-founder of The Pirate Bay - A man who believed information should be free. - helped create the largest torrent site in the world - Handles millions of users - openly mocked powerful corporations - joked about moving servers to North Korea ,space ... just for fun 😭 - Servers were seized and site went down - came back in 3 days - kept changing domain constantly - treated lawsuits like free marketing 😭 - traffic actually spiked after raids - created loopholes and confused courts for years - once tried to buy a country, Sealand, a micronation, to escape copyright laws - designed server to be bulletproof - Governments from multiple countries tried to shut it down permanently but failed - inspire platforms like KickassTorrents and 1337x - became one of the most blocked websites in history yet undefeated - Even fans cloned the entire platform to keep it alive He was playing a cat-and-mouse game with the entire internet… And somehow, the mouse kept winning.

I had this conversation at Microsoft in 1996: Me: "Why do we have our own pointer array code?" Mgr: "Because it's solid and well tested." Me: "So is vector<> in the STL!" Mgr: "Devs don't know the STL" Me: "They're devs, they should know the STL!" Mgr: "That's great, but they don't, so no." And so we continued to use and write all of our own containers and so on. Because the STL was scary.

i used to roll my eyes whenever senior devs said "just use the standard library." i was wrong. they were right. so much third-party stuff is genuinely unnecessary.

Moderators of the r/Linux subreddit are now censoring posts which talk about Age Verification. Not only are posts being removed, but I’ve heard from multiple Reddit users who have been banned from r/Linux for expressing opposition to Age Verification.

It’s legit hilarious that Jim Carrey, an esteemed actor who is semi retired and famously doesn’t like doing sequels Has played Dr. Eggman of all characters 4 times in a row and is pretty much the only thing he’s done in film for a decade

Anyone still chewing gum? That chewy part that never gets smaller is a plastic polymer. That same polymer can also be found in plastic bags, glue and tires. A 2025 UCLA has shown that chewing gum releases hundreds to thousands of microplastics into your saliva per piece. I highly recommend you stop chewing plastic.

This is not good: People have learned that GLP-1s are really effective, so if they're not losing weight, they know they're in the placebo group. So these people getting placebos are getting mad and leaving the trials.

🚨 Let me explain what Uber just did because nobody's going to frame it this way.. > In 2009 Travis Kalanick launched Uber with a simple pitch.. "everyone deserves a private driver".. He needed millions of regular people to quit their jobs and drive strangers around.. > Drivers took out car loans.. left stable jobs.. drove 14 hour shifts.. Uber took 20% and quietly pushed it past 50%" and called them "independent contractors" so they didn't have to pay benefits.. > Drivers protested.. sued.. begged for basic wages.. Uber fought every single lawsuit.. spent billions on lobbyists to keep them classified as gig workers not employees.. The drivers WERE the product.. not the customers.. Uber needed them to prove that people would get in a stranger's car.. that was the experiment.. > Today Uber just announced a $1.25 billion investment in Rivian to build a robotaxi fleet.. $1.25 billion.. not to pay drivers more.. not to give them benefits.. to replace them entirely.. > every driver who worked 14 hour shifts.. who skipped weekends with their kids.. who kept their rating above 4.8 so they wouldn't get deactivated.. they were proving the model works.. they were building the demand.. they were showing Uber exactly where people go, when they go, and how much they'll pay.. and now that the demand is proven and the data is collected.. Uber just launched an entire division called "AV Labs" to collect driving data for robotaxis..

Manager: I have you scheduled for a meeting at 7 PM tomorrow. Gen Z: Is my attendance mandatory? Manager: Yes, we’re working with a client in another time zone. Gen Z: Okay, I’m happy to shift my hours to accommodate. Manager: Excuse me, no—you still start at 8 AM. Gen Z: If I’m working in the evening, then I’ll start later in the day. Manager: Okay, don’t watch the clock at this company. We work when we need to work. Gen Z: I’m contracted and paid for 40 hours a week, so that is what I work. Manager: That’s a career-limiting move. Tomorrow is a busy day; I’ll need you to start right promptly at 8:00 AM. Gen Z: Alright then, I will take the lieu time later this week. Manager: Again, that’s not how we operate at this company. You work hard when you need to, and you don’t watch the clock. Gen Z: Again, I work for the hours I’m paid for, and since overtime is not an option, I’ll go ahead and adjust my hours this week to accommodate the shift in the schedule. Manager: You’re not quite understanding the company culture we have here—we work all the time. Gen Z: And you’re not understanding that just because that is the way you do things does not mean that is how I’m required to do things as well. Manager: (Silence)

Gen Z will never know the horror/euphoria of watching the sunrise over your college campus as you finish a thesis that will either turn out to be an A- masterpiece or a garbage essay that will make your professor write "What happened here?" (Yes, the latter happened)

Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.

Doing some experiments today with Opus 4.6's 1M context window. Trying to push coding sessions deep into what I would consider the 'dumb zone' of SOTA models: >100K tokens. The drop-off in quality is really noticeable. Dumber decisions, worse code, worse instruction-following. Don't treat 1M context window any differently. It's still 100K of smart, and 900K of dumb.

Peak era for social media was around 2008-2018 because people posted real information about their lives to people who actually knew them—it was wholesome. Now it’s basically just a way to talk about current events with strangers. No wonder so many are unwell.
