If I were to have a therapy session right now, I’d probably talk about my upcoming surgeries. The first of three is scheduled for the end of this month. Mentally, I’m prepared—but if given a choice, I’d pick an alternate reality where surgery wasn’t necessary. The procedure has a high success rate, which is reassuring, yet the thought of being under general anesthesia for the first time unsettles me. Will I heal quickly enough to return to work on time? Will my body accept the graft without complications? I’m not afraid. Just… concerned.
