Yes, in this Oct 2024 Woodbury, CT traffic stop (caption says Minnesota but it's CT), suspect Tyler Wilmot, 31, was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, and assault on a public safety officer. Backup Officer John Covello tasered the fleeing suspect to subdue him. Officer Tim Wright was stabbed in the neck but survived, recovered after hospital treatment, received a Purple Heart, and later retired. Wilmot pleaded not guilty and remains in custody on high bond.

Real service dogs are trained, task-focused, and under control. They have a job. They’re not pets. That’s why the ADA protects them. Everything else — emotional support animals, “therapy dogs,” or just regular pets people decided to bring inside — is not the same thing. These animals shed, jump, drool, and create health risks for everyone else. Other shoppers have allergies. Some have phobias. Everyone has the right to buy food without dog hair in it or an untrained animal climbing the coolers. The “but he’s friendly” excuse doesn’t cut it. Your dog being friendly doesn’t override basic hygiene and food safety standards. Stores used to enforce this. They stopped. Time to bring the rules back. If this happened at your grocery store, would you say something to management?
