🚨ODD SCORING ALERT🚨
This is a weird play from tonight's @Cubs at @Mets game, and there is a weird scoring rule with it.
On a 3-2 count with one out, Michael Busch takes ball four, but Pete Crow-Armstrong was off running with the pitch. Despite it being ball four, the catcher threw down. Even though PCA is entitled to second base without penalty due to the walk, he touches the base, and then is off the base when tagged.
Because he touched the base and then left the safety of the base on the slide, he is liable to be put out. This goes down as a 2-6 "out advancing" at second base, and this is NOT a caught stealing.
The reason this is not a caught stealing is because of the walk, it is impossible to be credited with a stolen base of second, because PCA was forced. Since he cannot by rule be credited with a stolen base, he cannot be credited with a caught stealing either.

I don’t think people realize how hard it is to get into the HOF. Here’s Kyle Schwarber vs Lance Berkman thru age-33. Berkman got 1.3% of the vote in his first and only year on the ballot. Schwarber has no chance.

@dirt_tard @josephbartacus He was but this doesn't apply to any base after the first base. Guys can be out by 10 steps but have the ball thrown away and they still get credit with a triple.
It's only an error or advancing on a throw if it's a base they weren't going for already.

🚨CYCLE SCORING ALERT🚨 Tons of folks sent this one in from the @Phillies and @Mets game, with Bryce Harper completing the cycle with this fifth inning triple. I believe this was scored correctly as a triple. This falls under Rule 9.06; Determining the Value of Base Hits. The key is Harper never slowed down at all and was going for third the whole time. One of the things the scorer has to determine is whether or not Harper went to third on the throw or not. He obviously was going for third regardless, and the fact that he would have been out is inconsequential here. The OS Manual states this: “Had the bases been empty, would the batter-runner have attempted to advance the extra base? If not, the value of the base hit should not include the additional base.” The answer on this one is yes, Harper would have ATTEMPTED to advance. Doesn’t say if he would have been safe. Since he would have attempted this regardless of the throw home, he was, IMHO, correctly credited with a triple.
