Stop calling the people in Iran protestors and start calling them revolutionaries. Words matter, protests are supposed to be peaceful, and I hope what’s going on over there is anything but peaceful. I was in Vancouver visiting family late last week. Surprisingly, more interest being exhibited in making aliyah. I think the reality of what is happening and what is yet to come is starting to sink in. Same in Calgary. It's sad that it has come to this. I had always hoped aliyah would be an act of hope and faith rather than one of refuge

My humble prediction: Antisemitism in America will spiral out of control as the elections draw near. On one side, the progressive woke left aligned with Islamist supporters; on the other, the separatist far right - both will drive an unprecedented smear campaign against Israel. I understand completely. I hear this quite a bit. It's not an easy decision, and for some, it's not possible. I believe federations in Canada need to start recognizing this and think about redirecting some funding towards Jews wishing to leave but unable to because of financial pressures. Once in Israel it gets a little better because of tax breaks and other benefits given to olim, but even then, the cost of moving and Israeli real estate remains prohibitive to many. It's a challenge, no question. But staying where we're despised and systemically discriminated against doesn't work either. I try to encourage young Jews to make aliyah while they are unattached and able to contend with change and start a new life before they become ensnared as many of us are. Anyway, I know exactly how you are feeling and wish you well.

I was at a good bye party today for a family moving to Florida. All of us were talking about exit plans. Leaving Canada is on so many of our minds. We want to leave before we are forced to leave. Being Jewish in Canada isn’t a long term option.
