This is the reality in way too many places in Western countries now. Synagogues vandalized Jewish businesses vandalized Jewish people threatened and harassed and bullied. And nobody is stopping them.

What happens in a democratic society when the majority is wrong? Western civilization, for the most part, is build on this concept of "majority rules". Whatever form it takes - Constitutional Monarchy, Federal Republic, Parliamentary Republic - in all of them, governments are elected based on votes by the citizens of the countries. Whichever candidate gets the most votes - the majority - wins the election. So. What happens when the majority is wrong? What happens when the majority is voting on what they believe to be true, but it's not true? What happens when the majority doesn't fully know or understand the person they vote for? Doesn't know their true motives? What happens when the majority believes the lies and mistruths that the candidate spews, and votes for them? What happens when the majority elects people and parties who don't have the country's best interests at heart? What happens when people are influenced by media and social media, by lies and propaganda, by foreign elements, trying to influence to get a particular outcome? What happens, when our democracies, one of the very principles on which our countries were built, are no longer working in the best interest of our countries? What happens when people vote on a referendum, only to learn later it was a huge mistake, because they didn't have all the information, and voted emotionally? What happens when people are fueled by hate, and anger, and act on that, rather than on facts and logic? What happens when all the controls that were put into place to protect us from ourselves, fail miserably? Is the majority always right, even when they're wrong? Is each and every example I've given above, discredited by the fact that we live in some form of a democracy, that by definition, states that what the majority decides, is the way it's going to be? That they can never be wrong, because, well - they're the majority? Right now that's how our societies operate. The majority is always right. Even when they're wrong. And right now, that prospect is scary as hell. Because right now, way too many majorities are getting it wrong. Over and over and over again. And the problem with what happens when majorities get it wrong? All of us pay the price.
