Nobody knew what was happening at home. Before Sammy Griner was born his father Justin was diagnosed with kidney disease. By the time Sammy was old enough to understand what was happening, his father was spending four hours a day three days a week on dialysis. Six years of it. Justin's mother had already passed from the same disease. The family needed a transplant and they needed money for the medication that would follow. His mother was initially reluctant to use her son's famous face to ask for help. She wanted the fundraiser to be about her husband, not a meme. Then she changed her mind. Within five days three hundred people had donated. Within a few more days the story spread across the internet and the total reached over one hundred thousand dollars. The call came. A kidney was available. The transplant was a success. When Sammy was told his father had a new kidney, he burst into tears. The photo that started as a joke about eating sand had saved his father's life.

@CSackItToMe yeah! i also got a text from her last month to say that she could see i was to be reducing the dose of steroids for my RA gradually, and to contact the surgery if i needed any more. i was like wow, they really do keep up to date with their patients. it's nice that they care!

my doctor text me last week asking me to book an appt because of my high blood pressure. she want me to monitor it 2x a day for a week. my BP is always high due to portal hypertension/my liver cirrhosis. it's not news. but it's nice that the drs here check in on their patients.

Back in the Summer of 2007 when I was pregnant with Chloe and working at Jared (TGOJ) I was obsessed with Paramore’s first album RIOT. Every single day on my way to and from work, I would put one earbud in my ear, the other earbud in my belly button. I would crank that album all the way up and sing it at the top of my lungs, serenading my little Riot Baby. Today things came full circle when I picked my now 18-year-old baby Chloe up from her most recent job interview. Afterwards, she twisted my arm into taking her to lunch at El Fenix because she was “literally dying of starvation” (she ate like two bites lol) On the way home she connected to my cars Bluetooth and queued up RIOT. We screamed those songs the whole way home. Holding back tears I told her how much I love singing with her in the car and always have… even before I knew her.
