@SeiderG65609 @GrindLinePod Would be surprised to see MBN back up this year, barring any injuries

@GrindLinePod Wish he said something about MBN if he is thinking about pulling him up or keeping down

Steve Yzerman Trade Deadline Presser Notes:
- On how the Faulk trade came together: Call around, identify your needs, weigh the cost, make a decision.
- Standingswise they are in a pretty good spot. With young guys like Axel who they projected to be in GR and JBD have really helped. Faulk solidifies the core
- Cap affected every team at the deadline. Teams could keep their players because they all have more space and more flexibility. New rules really didn't impact anything.
- On David Perron, not concerned he's still on IR. They dig in on player health to know exactly where he is in rehab. They anticipate him being about 14 days away from playing.
- On guys like Thomas and other forwards. For what they felt the needs were they talked to every team with those players. They explored everything. They didn't have what some teams wanted and in others, it wouldn't work.
- Was Yzerman close to anything else and how was it compared to previous? Not sure on comparing it. They were looking for a F and a D. Were they close on F? Probably not. They knew this going back a few days that they weren't going to get a big-name F.
- Seems like the cost was higher, was Steve concerned about how it would go? He says he was concerned. They all value players differently and are all in different situations. Some deals everyone scratches their head at. Some are more willing because they are all in, and their picks are later.
- On Elmer Soderblom, he's been in and out of the lineup. Ultimately, they aren't trying to throw everything in. Getting the 3rd allowed them to trade with St. Louis. With the addition of Perron and other players within, they can fill Elmer's role. The 3rd round pick for the 13th F role was good value.
- How much better does he feel about the roster now, based on past seasons in March? The experience for younger players is that it's getting more difficult this time of year. They add another top 4d to help solidify. They are deeper; it's been spotty lately, but they have gotten more scoring overall out of their bottom 6.
- The first round pick is not protected.
- The term on Faulk makes it a little easier to give up the 1st. Steve doesn't think they are in a rental market position.
- On making Axel playoff eligible for the AHL, he is playing tonight, and they wanted to just make sure he is eligible. Yzerman will sit down with Todd to see how the defense shakes out when Faulk joins the team against NJ. Performance will dictate whether ASP stays or goes to GR.
- Why did they know they were out on big name Fs early on? They were prepared to make the move fora big name player, but not on a 2-3 year deal (Trocheck probably). They would have done it for a longer-term guy. Some teams had a set price and would not budge off of it (Thomas probably).
- When you look across the league, what teams positioned themselves well? He hasn't assessed everything yet, but the division is really difficult. Making the playoffs will still be a challenge.
- What needs to be seen from the team on this stretch? He looks back to Vegas, and they were up 3-1, and they sat back. He wants to see them keep pushing and play with confidence. They go into a defensive shell, but he needs them to keep making plays, be confident, and use your brain. Games are getting harder. They have to find a way to keep getting points, hang in there, and be strong.
- Says he knows Faulk in passing and knows a lot of people who have played with and around him. He asked Perron about Faulk as well. He's an experienced vet. Everyone knows Perron. Experienced vet that shows up in the playoffs and shows up for his teammates. Helps take the load off Dylan.
- Does Perron remind Yzerman of anyone he has played with? Steve agrees he's competitive. Has good sense and puck skills. Bigger and stronger than he looks. Off the top of his head, he can't think of a comparable.
- Was this the most urgent he's had to make moves by this deadline? Says every deadline there is urgency as buyers or sellers. This deadline they put themselves in a good position. Cost vs product was justifiedand they think what they have done helps them make the playoffs.
- They have good young prospects and traded a good young winger, but they have a lot of skilled wingers in the pipeline. A first is hard to move, but if they make the playoffs, at some point, you have to give something up. If you don't give up a first, you aren't getting the guy.
- How close to 3 did the Faulk deal come together? It was done around 1 or 1:30. Was there a fallback if it didn't happen? They had a couple other they would have explored. They were weighing the cost to acquire each person and liked the cost of Faulk the best.
- On new faces in the analytics department, did they help? Brian Campbell is head of analytics. They get summaries on everything, and that is more a question for Brian 😂.
And that's a wrap for the presser, on to Florida!

@MrPassive_ Cracking six figures six years after graduating 😭😭😭🫵🫵
Shit is so predictable, could’ve guess this would’ve been about owning vending machines or something stupid

Age 22-28:
• Grind 60 hours a week
• Chase the next promotion
• Tell yourself it's "paying your dues"
Age 28-35:
• Finally crack six figures
• Too tired to enjoy it
• Miss your daughter's first steps
• Retirement is still 30 years away
Age 35-45:
• Same commute, bigger title
• See your family on Sundays
• Start asking, "Is this really it?"
I lived this.
I thought grinding harder was the answer.
It wasn't.
The answer was building something that worked for me even when I wasn't working.
Now I'm home for dinner every night.
Your 20s and 30s are the most important decades of your life.
Don't trade them for a title and a two-week vacation.
