Recently umpired a high school game. Kid hits a double gets to second base and his team implores him to celebrate. He called time took his guard off and thank the official in the field for being there. Love that

Recently at a youth 13u game and high school varsity game I heard parents yelling "DROP IT" on fly balls hit to the outfield. Have adults become so consumed with winning that they want to a child fail that bad?

Local high school game. Kid hits the ball off the wall. Top 3 on the team. He watches his work and barely got to 2b. Coach calls time and pulls him from the game. Love it. We need more of that.

@HPBAac Nope. They get hyped and celebrated to grow the program they are in. The program profits by allowing that. His accomplishments should be celebrated. 1.15bpf bat and small field. Adult ego is strange in youth sports. That same team would be pissed if that happened to them.

Question...do these kids get any of the YouTube (social media) revenue these adults are using them for? If the adults are going to encourage this behavior, perhaps the kids (or the kids parents) should get a cut? Probably not.

Here we go again. Another over the top celebration at 12u. If you think this is good for baseball, you are the problem. Bat almost hits him in the face after the spike, then all the "look at me" antics, and you gotta love the cameraman on the field running with the kid. What a joke. It's all a show...🤦🏼♂️

This is the problem with social media. We glamorize this kind of stuff and the reality is that these kids are getting taken advantage of by a bunch of influencers that make money on them. Pure and simple. Unfortunately young people see this and think it’s OK to act like this in a real setting. The other reality is that statistically most of these kids won’t even be any good by 16.

This isn’t okay. This is Pottstown. Are their videos entertaining? Yes…but let’s be real. They probably aren’t focused on being future hall of fame baseball players. They are future YouTube/content creators. Especially with antics like these.
My kid talks about these kids and my response to him is remember your goal. Remember your intentions and then emulate those that have reached the level that you want to achieve.
So yeah…if your goal in life is to be a star on instagram or YouTube, these are the kids for you. But if your goal is to play real baseball for a long time, find someone else to look up to ❤️⚾️✨
Oh and parents…..if your kid is doing this and you are proud….be better parents. I said what I said 🤷🏼♀️

While "No days off" is great. A physical and mental rest day is absolutely okay. Muscle memory isn't just the repetitive things they do, the mind is one that needs work and rest too. Embracing being okay with days off should be a thing.

@CoachMattJohns1 Ill say this. The south has it for now. South end Schools are now using transfer and not in a good way plus summer ball to get players. Its bad. The @wiaawa doesn't see it?. Whole staffs coaching kids all summer/Winter then school.

The south end definitely is where the power lies these days. 20 years ago - KingCo had the stranglehold. Demographics change these things quickly.

Depends…in WA state you get 20 games. A bad or unlucky week can derail stats.
Also not unheard of to see 88-92 on a Monday & 68-72 on Wednesday. Had this actually happen this year. That’s a pretty dramatic adjustment in 48 hours including a 45 min bus ride w 45 mins pregame.

Another high school coach said to me this week: “You see kids committing D1 off exit velo, ‘upside’ and showcases… Then you check the H.S. stats—and they’re hitting in the .100s.” He asked: “If you’re a D1 guy, shouldn’t you be lighting up H.S. pitching?” Thoughts on this?

Maybe the coolest thing that’s ever been said to me. I’ll take a state title & 196 starts in college over that, any day.
