Rick Croy on star PG Dominique Daniels Jr. staying a Lancer: “The very best players still believe they can play in the NBA… The best ones are still focused on development.” Noted how much recruiting has changed. Used to be about developing pros. Nowadays? $$. Worth a listen.

The number of scam “agents” out there is crazy. If someone says “hey I got this school and they’ll offer X but only if you sign with me”…..RUN AWAY!!!! 99% of the time the “offer” is bullshit The other 1% of the time they don’t give a crap about you off the court or the fit. They just want a quick bag.

Not just internationally, but there are a lot of stories of kids who were role guys on winning high school teams that transitioned seemlessly into being role guys and winners in college. Always usually end up a level too low.

NCAA coaches should prioritize recruiting younger prospects with winning backgrounds instead of older pros. Seems a bit obvious, but if you think of the top performing intl players in CBB, most have been of that ilk Ivan Kharchenkov is the perfect example

the hardest teams to scout arent the ones that have binders full of bespoke sets, adaptablity is a great trait for sure, but theres nothing like trying to outscheme a team that runs 4-5 concepts to perfection. you know it, you see it coming, you dont stop it. same as it ever was.

I want to thank Coach Kerns, the staff, and Mountaineer Nation for your support over the last 2 years. I’m forever grateful for my time at App State. With 2 years of eligibility left, I have officially entered the transfer portal. All inquiries: @CoachMeriwether

@dandickau21 This happens a lot more than people realize. Also, even more common is "agents" acting like they represent a player to coaches so they can take that player an offer to pick them up as a client.

Transfer portal is “officially” starting as players posting intentions. I talked w a coach last week and asked him about how his staff handles. He told me he got a text from an agent on way to game with list of players he represents in portal and one of his players was on it

I still can’t believe this. The next question is what smart preps do the same thing and find another big time program to partner with. This combo is setting the bar pretty high

Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith will be joining forces with another prep school legend, John Carroll, at the brand-new Masters Academy International, sources told @thefieldof68. Smith, 52, who has more than 700 career wins, has won 7 New England Prep titles and 7 National Prep Championships, will be the head coach of the scholastic team. Smith, who arrived at Brewster in 2000, has coached 25 NBA players in his tenure, and more than 200 Division 1 players. Carroll, 55, who has 6 New England Championships and 2 National Prep Titles while at Northfield Mount Hermon and the Newman School, was named the Director of Basketball in mid-February. Carroll won 370 games as head coach at NMH, and quickly built the Newman School into a power in the last four years. The Masters Academy International will open in September of 2026 in Stow, Mass.

Game changing news in the world of prep hoops but if ADs were smart both these guys would have been head D1 coaches a decade ago.
