The NCAA distributed a chart to member schools outlining the implementation scenarios of the 5-year, age-based eligibility concept. It’s clear the NCAA is expecting to adopt the concept for 2026-27. Important: Final waivers under current rules must be submitted by July 31.

I go in the gym on an off day and there’s literally no one in there…so I’m shooting 3s…I look over and I see Spo walk in…he’s like ‘here keep going, get in the corner 100 3s’ and I’m like ‘damn coach I was already done’…I make 60/100 which is awful wide open…Spo’s like ‘do it again, you gotta make 70 before you get out of here’…I’m like ‘coach I’m finna pass out’…I was 69/99 and clanked the last one…I’m saying every world you can think of…I finally made 70 and Spo’s like ‘this is how you gotta approach it…’ (via @theOGsShow)

The NCAA has released a statement on eligibility.

The DI Board of Directors directed the DI Cabinet to continue work on the age-based, 5-year eligibility concept. Big note: Players who exhausted eligibility this year under current rules - even those 4-year seniors - will not receive an additional/5th season. Not retroactive.

NEWS: NCAA President Charlie Baker told ESPN today that he’s “pretty optimistic” that the new aged-based eligibility proposal will happen. The DI Board of Directors met today and will recommend to not implement this rule retroactively for graduates/exhausted eligibility. “If you’ve used up your eligibility, you’ve used it up,” Baker told ESPN of the tenor of the discussion.

College players about to potentially get 5 years of eligibility. Euro players with professional experience are being recruited to play in college. Former G Leaguers are being recruited to play in college Reportedly 4949 players hit the portal So yes, please tell me non Top 100 28’s, 29s, 30s are receiving real offers right now. Ya’ll better keep the main thing the main thing.

Source: The D1 Board of Directors will meet Monday & receive a report from the D1 Cabinet on the age based eligibility proposal (5 in 5).   Multiple options are being reviewed regarding parameters for this potential rule & when it will be implemented if passed by a future vote.

Joe Mazzulla went long on awards & recognition today. Asked him about whether he thinks the Coach of the Year award should instead be Organization of the Year: “If it were Staff of the Year, it's different, if it were Organization of the Year – but at the end of the day, I haven't made one basket all year. Our staff hasn't made a basket. We haven't gotten a block. We haven't ran back on defense. We didn't play in a back-to-back. We didn't have to play hurt. We haven't really done shit. So, if you don't have the guys to be able to put you in position, it doesn't really matter. I’m just grateful – the greatest gift I have is I get to coach a bunch of guys that care about winning and being a part of the culture that we have.”

@UtseyBill @WinterSportsLaw You're misunderstanding - when this goes through there will be almost no turnover in college sports - meaning high school seniors in most sports - in this one singular class - will have very few options anywhere to continue their playing careers.

@CoachMeriwether @WinterSportsLaw "...heavy price?" Really? A $50k to $100k scholarship for an extra year. That's good $ in my book, especially for a 22 yr old.

I get asked multiple times a week by athletes & coaches whether current seniors will get another season of competition if the age based eligibility rule is passed. Because it’s college athletics we’re talking about, I’d expect legal challenges if those athletes aren’t included.

Rising HS seniors - when instituted class of '27 high school recruiting will be reduced in a way that has never been seen before when combined w/ current transfer rules. Also makes any postgrad year cost eligibility. If you are able reclassifying to '28 is worth considering.
