Thread of the comment I sent to GMB yesterday when asked: I find it profoundly insulting that a health condition that can only affect women is being explained to us by a man.More people in the UK are women, and plenty of women Parliamentarians and qualified medical professionals1/

Morse Code "coin". Not particularly useful for learning but the "receive side" is interesting. See if you can figure it out.

The International Olympic Committee’s decision on women’s sports could mark an important cultural tipping point. For years, there’s been a sharp divide between popular and elite opinion on this issue. While most Americans support keeping men out of women’s sports, celebrities and elite institutions have largely either succumbed to gender ideology or stayed silent. But now the IOC, arguably the most powerful governing body in international sport, has realigned itself with reality. This could give other elites the “permission” they need to finally admit what everyone has always known: men and women have real biological differences. And those differences matter in sports. We should welcome everyone who is willing to stand for truth and fairness—whether they joined us early or late. But we should especially remember the ones who spoke out early. Many of them have endured vicious shaming for their loyalty to the truth. They deserve our thanks, society’s trust, and—in some cases—an apology.

Let's try to get this straight: No one is 'banned' No one is 'prevented from competing' No one is 'excluded' There is a sex category for everyone. Everyone can compete, where eligible. You need to be good, and to qualify. So, as they sometimes say; #trainharder

I wholeheartedly welcome the new IOC guidelines that secure a safe and fair female category that excludes male athletes. SRY screening is a simple, non-invasive, once-in-a-lifetime check that returns female sport to female athletes. Laurel Hubbard should not have been allowed to lift weights against women. Caster Semenya should not have been allowed to run against women. Imane Khelif should not have been allowed to punch women in the face. This is a vindication for all the brilliant women who have fought for fairness and safety for all women in sport. Thank you to Kirsty Coventry, Jane Thornton and all those in the working group for a clear, evidence based policy. @iocmedia

The IOC will probably ditch their trans-inclusive and male DSD-inclusive policy. Some people don't possess common sense: "We consider that mandatory genetic sex testing, and the exclusion of women athletes on this basis, violates..." Here is the fundamental mistake: those athletes who are excluded from the female catery are NOT women - that's why they need to be excluded. "We call on the IOC, as it finalises the work to find a “consensus” to “protect the female category”, to reject mandatory genetic testing as a condition of eligibility. We call on International Federations that have already adopted such eligibility rules to withdraw them immediately. And we call on all sport governing bodies to recommit—in practice, not only in policy—to the principles of inclusion and non-discrimination that they have already affirmed." asser.nl/sportslaw/blog

This 👇 is a great thread breaking down the hounding of Dr Katie Alcock, who as a Guide Leader, raised safeguarding red flags within GirlGuiding, and was punished. GirlGuiding spent a substantial amount on defending her legal case against them, before settling out of court. She has been well and truly vindicated. Special mention to @fancyhatslady too. Both sheroes.
Dr Katie Alcock@wontsomeonethi2

So let's break down the timeline:🧵 2016 - I start to read mutterings in Guiding groups about girls who are "now boys" and people asking if they can stay in Guiding. No, say the mods, they are boys now, why would they want to? Early 2018 - I am now aware that this is policy and

Top marks to @PureGym for a very clear, concise, changing rooms policy. “We provide a range of changing facilities for our users. We provide in all gyms: 1. a. separate-sex communal changing rooms (based on biological sex); and b. an individual use, accessible, gender-neutral changing room. 2. The separate-sex communal changing rooms are designated for use by individuals according to their biological sex.” And that’s it. Something for everyone. Well done Pure Gym for not making it any more complicated than it needed to be.

"Buffer zones don't ban prayer," Stella Creasy claims. Meanwhile, our client Isabel Vaughan-Spruce will face trial in Birmingham for doing nothing except silently praying in her head in a buffer zone. The national buffer zone legislation used to prosecute her—Section 9 of the Public Order Act 2023—was introduced by Creasy and CPS guidance lists silent prayer as a potential offence. Creasy also voted against a specific amendment to POA 2023 which would have made it clear that silent prayer is not a crime. Isabel previously has been arrested twice for silently praying in a buffer zone imposed by a local PSPO (video of first arrest below). Our client Adam Smith-Connor was criminally convicted for silently praying in a local PSPO buffer zone in Bournemouth. The legislation used to prosecute him named prayer as a banned activity. Both Adam and Isabel were told directly by authorities that prayer was a crime and were interrogated on the nature of their prayers. Neither of these people engaged in behaviour that was harassing, obstructing or intimidating and they were not protesting either. They are peaceful Christians who merely silently prayed in a public space, as is their lawful right in a free country. The undeniable reality is that buffer zones are being used to ban silent prayer in what is the most egregious example of censorship in Britain today. They are used to censor not only speech, but also people’s most intimate thoughts, as the examples of Adam and Isabel show. This is real life thoughtcrime. If anyone supports this and pretends to care about freedom of religion, you simply should not believe them. x.com/DailyCaller/st…

Buffer zones don't ban prayer. They balance the right of those who want to oppose abortion with those who want to access one without being harassed to use the same space at the same time. Banning public prayer from Trafalgar square because you demonise those doing it isn't balance as theres no contest for the use of the space. So this is only an issue if you don't see women or muslims as having rights...

Of course it is a free speech issue: the law literally criminalises peaceful protest, prayer & offers of help (harassment & intimidation already illegal). For MPs to decide which topic someone is allowed to talk about in a particular place is a dreadful precedent. It’s abortion this time, but with that principle breached, any issue is potentially at risk. But above all, deliberately denying help to women like Alina Dulgheriu is just cruel.
stellacreasy@stellacreasy

I would expect a 'professor' to bother to recognise this law passed parliament. A majority of MPs recognised we needed to listen to women who said that it wasn't helpful, or required, to pray in their faces when having an abortion and that if those who did wouldn't stop it wasn't a free speech matter. It was harassment.

Official UK Government website explicitly states that silent prayer on its own could be legitimately prosecuted under the buffer zone law in England & Wales. Not my words, @stellacreasy, the words of your government.

Buffer zones don't ban prayer. They uphold the privacy of women having an abortion. If prayer was banned in public then no one could do it. Those getting upset about iftars in public seem to want to agree there's a 'time and place' for everything. Hyperbole and hypocrisy do not for reasoned debate make.

"Make no mistake, Dame Jenni was Woman’s Hour and she left after 33 years at its helm because the BBC would not let her discuss one of the issues of the day. “I was roundly ticked off publicly and informed that I would not be allowed to chair any discussions on the trans question or the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act,” she wrote in the Daily Mail in 2020 of the BBC’s actions towards her. She’d left Woman’s Hour earlier that year... In the name of “impartiality”, the BBC chose not to stand by one of its most beloved journalists because she had written that women’s rights were based on biological sex." Suzanne moore

This is v helpful for anyone attempting to think why how the West fails to understand (some types of) Islam. Westerners often describe Islam as a religion, but it is better understood to be (I’d argue) a form of politics. (Establishment Christianity might make a similar claim).

In the light of the reaction to public prayer by Muslims this week, many thanks to @glenscrivener for this video! Part of the problem is that we in the West are WEIRD & don't know it or want to admit it. Also, the Left & Right cherry pick from Christianity youtu.be/wjp3p8VGLIY?si…
