Do you remember the days when you could see other user's likes? Well, before that change went through, some glorious person saved @RepMaloyUtah's liked tweets. Why did she like posts about BLM, destroying property, and justice for George Floyd?

@alexisence It’s also wrong to lie and say that there were credible threats when they were none. UVU is a pathetic excuse for a school; they failed in their part to rise up to the moment. I can’t say I’m proud to be graduating this semester from this institution.

I think it’s totally acceptable for people to use their first amendment rights. One of the issues that occurred during the 2010 era was that there was actual violence that was occurring. At the very least, the threats of violence were very visible on campuses. I don’t support people saying mean things or lying about others, but I truly haven’t seen any of that in the direction of Sharon. Most of the comments are expressing the opinion that the choice was distasteful or tone deaf, not calling upon violence for her. In lots of my circles, many people are saying they wouldn’t mind her coming and speaking out next year’s commencement. It’s just the issue of speaking less than a year after Charlie died. Like, have some respect.

Due to increased safety concerns related to the speaker and in consultation with public safety professionals and Sharon McMahon, Utah Valley University has decided to proceed without a featured commencement speaker for this year’s ceremony. We look forward to coming together as a community to celebrate UVU’s largest graduating class in history, with more than 13,400 graduates, about one third of whom are the first in their families to graduate from college. Go Wolverines!

No I’m responding directly you your claim that we are silencing her. We used our freedom of speech to criticize the decision of a public university that receives taxpayer funding. They made a bad decision to bring someone partisan who lied about Charlie. They least they could have done was wait a year to bring her for commencement. The majority of students don’t want commencement to political.

@ConservativeUT @UVU The late 2010s saw many cases of leftists trying to get right-wing voices uninvited from college campuses. There were cases with Ben Shapiro and Milo Yiannopoulos where leftists created security threats that led to cancellations from the universities. It's hard to not see...

The only one silenced the past year was Charlie Kirk by a leftist. Sharon can still speak her mind. If there’s one thing that we learned within the past year is that too many on the left are willing to celebrate violence against political opponents. I haven’t heard of one person on the right inciting violence against Sharon while I’ve been on campus or in my circles.

@dustinharding The right *typically* doesn’t threaten violence. I think this is the university is playing the victim. I could be wrong and there are actual threats but I also hope threats of violence were not involved.

I fully understand the backlash, but I sincerely hope threats of violence were not truly involved. Such actions against speech are never justified and would be completely contrary to the lessons we should have learned from Charlie’s death.

Someone died on our campus 7 months ago and Sharon wants to be the victim. Pathetic.
