@DavidFPoole @BAFTA Bloody hell. Organisations do make mistakes, but they really need to look at their systems if it’s one they’ve made before.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be upset that an exclusive & elitist organisation as @BAFTA should treat emerging filmmakers with such carelessness. Perhaps we shouldn’t expect meaningful apologies for truly jaw dropping incompetence that crushes spirits at a bleak time. But the mask is off

@MrLSaunders @BAFTA They made a very similar error 5yrs back with BAFTA Crew; exactly the same acceptance/correction mistake. Seems they’ve learned very little, and couldn’t have come at a worst time for people

@DavidFPoole @BAFTA It’s terrible, particularly given how many people are already struggling in the industry at the moment. Incompetence & what looks like a very poor response to its ‘error’. As you say, it should do better.

@MrLSaunders @BAFTA Thanks Laurence! I’m one of the lucky ones as I didn’t pick up the initial email until after the news broke but so many people affected. Really unacceptable from an organisation that should do better

Also, I’m not aware of any public statements they’ve made on this aside from via email. Think it’s kind of worthy of acknowledging the damage they’ve done, but that’s none of my business

I’m lucky: I saw the social media outrage before I’d seen my emails, but the elation then devastation people felt, compounded by their insufficient apologies? Despicable. We should have zero confidence in BAFTA’s commitment to creating opportunities for emerging filmmakers
