#YoCaviar | "Creo que toda la gente de derecha debe votar por el candidato de derecha que esté mejor posicionado, y por el momento es Rafael López Aliaga. One glaring omission on the CDC's variant nowcast is BA.3.2. Today it's probably >5% in the US, some wastewater data suggests it could already be above 10%. It's definitely the most interesting variant at the moment by a long shot, and it's not called out here.

So it's clear that BA.3.2 preferentially infects children, something we have never seen before in a SARS-CoV-2 variant. Why? The question's baffled me, but after a suggestion from Darren Martin, I think I have an explanation that makes sense. 1/16

The first documented human H9N2 infection in Europe. Interesting, but certainly no reason for panic. ecdc.europa.eu/en/news-events…

@LongDesertTrain @Nucleocapsoid @snpoehlm It seems to be the case in the newly released data from Lithuania as well. I checked 67 February-March samples from Vilnius, the nation's capital. 8% of non-BA.3's are from ages <18, vs. 2/3 BA.3 52% of non-BA.3's are ages 60+, vs. zero BA.3 It is significant.

. @gwladwr is right. Just looked at the data from Ireland and BA.3.2 is definitely predominantly infecting children there. Since Dec 1 in Ireland: non-BA.3.2 6/66 (9.1%) age 0-19, (0/1 hospital tests) BA.3.2 43/91 (47.3%) age 0-19 (1/3 hospital tests)
