@jbhearn Has anyone compared the impact of that to inflation running at 4-5% for a prolonged period? I assume higher inflation is the worse of the two options for people without assets but better for those with?

@hellotimbennett I guess a mortgage payment increasing from £260 per month to around £700-800 (est. cost of a new fixed rate) didn’t feel dramatic enough.

Woah. Just received our new mortgage payment estimate. Cost of £200,000 BTL loan interest-only, during our recent fix? £260pcm. At the end of it? £1,230 pcm. Can't see that sort of jump ending well for some borrowers. Anyone else experiencing similar pain?

In 1947 town planner Thomas Sharp was commissioned to produce a town planning study for Oxford City Council – this resulted in Oxford Replanned of 1948. Most of it was rejected as too radical – he had wanted to rid the centre of Oxford of the menace of motor traffic.

In the UK there are ~2 million mortgages to be refinanced in 2023. The locked-in rate was on average ~2.5% and the new refinancing rate is ~6%. That’s a lot more disposable income going into mortgage payments, if people can afford it. One reason why the BoE is chickening out.
