@Tsunalyst The philosopher king would not care what they say about politics… Hence the “philosopher” part. I mean this even in a muslim configuration of this ideal

I don’t care much for the Philosopher King/Vilayet-e Faqih ideal because as nice as it is to have in theory, the best leader now will be the pragmatist who doesn’t care much for what the ‘Ulama say about politics, but understands their role in state-building alongside pedagogues.

"Moreover, our conviction....that the human being has been created 'in the best of forms...ennobled'...makes any attempt to decry the natural endocrinology of our bodies blasphemous. We are as we have been created, and Allah, blessed is He, is the best of creators". - AHM

To the extent HCM operates under something like Hume’s argument against believing in miracles—where the evidence for miracles is never sufficient to rationally justify belief in them—does it make its use by committed believers problematic.

a profoundly modern and liberal understanding of the world. So while it should be situated in its genealogical context—and may rightly concern believers—its practical utility in establishing a shared set of premises to operate from should not be overlooked.

Great article, Little has expressed a similar sentiment too. Even many muslim thinkers accept an “HCM-lite” approach until the moment of revelation. Thus the scope is more in contention than the theory. Touching on its neutrality, there is an absence of direct

Leisure and labor were treated as such by the Greeks, Romans and their most close descendants. Completely reliant on slaves, and they knew that too. It's only a modern development where the wealthy try to signal how much harder they work than everyone else.

I walked through Monticello (Jefferson’s estate) and this system functions because others perform the labor that sustains that independence. Freedom, in his model, rests on a hidden structure of coercion.

@porelalma There are so many maladies that I feel almost any which of could make a strong case for the "real problems" we face.

It feels so disconcerting to shorten my prayers after less than an hour of driving, so much so I simply follow IT on this issue

Inspired by our brother, I’ve decided to write my own piece on philosophies of technology. Rather than purely philosophical and refraining from any solution, I try to ask hard questions. open.substack.com/pub/porelalma/…

When anyone objects to the material reduction for the causes for religious adherence, remind them of the Central Asians under the USSR, and now the Uyghurs. We would all share the same fate under the right conditions.
Abduweli Ayup@AbduwelA

Uyghur writing is disappearing. First, the Uyghur language was banned in schools. Then in 2017, it was removed from public services. From 2026, Uyghur letters on streets, signs, and public places were taken away. However, tombs are still kept in Uyghurland to attract tourists

> Women no longer need the resources provided by men Really? This is intuitively so easy to understand: women need support when birthing and raising kids. This graph can become more equal, humanity will just end though.
