A Europe that can fully act on its own introduces a new variable: choice. And choice means alignment is no longer guaranteed, but negotiated. This was never just an alliance, it was a structure of influence, built on asymmetry and sustained by dependence. And structures like that don’t disappear overnight, but they do begin to crack the moment one side no longer needs the other to function.
