Today, our partner, the UAE, was once again the target of a vicious missiles and drone attacks originating from Iran. I extend my full solidarity to @MohamedBinZayed, the people of the UAE, and our partners across the Middle East. These attacks are unacceptable and constitute a clear violation of sovereignty and international law. Security in the region has direct consequences for Europe. So we will keep working closely with our partners on de-escalation and diplomatic resolution, to bring an end to the Iranian regime’s brutal actions. Both against its neighbors and its own people.

Together with @UAE_PP, the EU was proud to support “Strengthening the CBRN Crime Investigation, Prosecution & Adjudication Capabilities of the UAE.” This programme strengthened expertise across the full criminal justice chain, enhancing preparedness, coordination, and resilience.

In Abu Dhabi, I met with Deputy Prime Minister @ABZayed to discuss the Iran war and its regional impact, including on Lebanon and Iraq. The U.S.-Iran ceasefire remains fragile, but the alternative is bleak. Reopening the Strait of Hormuz swiftly must be a priority. We also spoke about our bilateral cooperation and how to take our EU-UAE partnership forward, also on security and defence.

The EU supports its citizens in times of crisis. So far, 4,100 citizens have been evacuated from the region. Thanks to #rescEU, 356 🇪🇺 travellers stranded in UAE & Oman have safely returned home. @BergerLucie and @EUintheUAE staff were on the ground supporting this operation.

Just spoke to @MohamedBinZayed of the United Arab Emirates. I conveyed our full support and extended our condolences following Iran’s strikes and the resulting casualties. Europe strongly condemns these unjustifiable attacks. These attacks constitute a blatant violation of the UAE’s sovereignty and a clear breach of international law. And it is not the first time the UAE has faced missile and drone attacks from Iran and its proxies. Europe stands in full solidarity with partners across the region. I will continue my outreach to important regional partners.

I had a very good call with @MohamedBinZayed, welcoming the launch of negotiations for the EU–UAE Strategic Partnership Agreement. This will open a new era of cooperation in areas such as investment, energy, and the clean and digital transitions. On the free trade agreement, we share the ambition to move swiftly while delivering a solid deal that can set a benchmark for the whole Gulf region. We agreed to remain focused on bridging remaining gaps and maintaining momentum. We also discussed Sudan. The world has been profoundly shocked by the atrocities in El Fasher. The UAE has a key role to play in the solution of this conflict. Finally we discussed Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The shockwaves of this war go well beyond Europe’s borders. So I highlighted the need for the whole world to join the efforts for a just and lasting peace for the country.

We welcome the continued US efforts to bring peace to Ukraine.  The initial draft of the 28-point plan includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace. We believe therefore that the draft is a basis which will require additional work. We are ready to engage in order to ensure that a future peace is sustainable. We are clear on the principle that borders must not be changed by force. We are also concerned by the proposed limitations on Ukraine’s armed forces, which would leave Ukraine vulnerable to future attack.  We reiterate that the implementation of elements relating to the European Union and relating to NATO would need the consent of EU and NATO members respectively.  We take this opportunity to underline the strength of our continued support to Ukraine. Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down. I am in constant communication with the Secretary General of NATO and our allies.

While the world seeks a path to peace, Russia responds with missiles. The overnight attack on Kyiv shows a deliberate choice to escalate and mock the peace efforts. Russia must stop the killing and negotiate.

I just spoke with my colleagues in @EUDelegationUA in Kyiv, after our building was damaged by a Russian strike. Your resolve to keep supporting Ukraine gives us strength. No diplomatic mission should ever be a target. In response, we are summoning the Russian envoy in Brussels.
