@ihavegoodtakes_ There’s more Chinese and Indians in an average engineering class there than people from Illinois, let alone white people.

@N00b_B1scu1t @KatDoes3D Holographic Weapon sights use holography and act and look different than red dots, their reticles are 3D, those are both red dots with 2D reticles Have you ever looked through a Holographic weapon sight ?

Here's why your optic's reticle needs to have depth, and not just have the reticle stuck to the glass. Both of these animations are the exact same. The only difference is how far out the reticle is being rendered. #b3d

@exthax_ @KatDoes3D This is extremely realistic and matches how red dots behave in real life. They are projecting the dot essentially at “infinity”

@KatDoes3D is it supposed to be realistic ? (genuine question) cause here it looks like the red thing is like 10m away from the actual optic

@hare_ware_0 @AlexCaswen @heyasucks @KatDoes3D The reticles in a holo sight *can* have depth, but no holo on the market uses that capability afaik. Main benefits of holo sights is no glass coat/tint to reflect the reticle which improves light transmission, especially under nods, and they have very little to no parallax shift.

Some context on the periodic outrage that some murderer has a low IQ and therefore can't stand trial or be executed. SCOTUS briefly held (1972-76) that capital punishment was an unconstitutional violation of the 8th Amendment's prohibition on "cruel and unusual punishment." SCOTUS quickly reversed that ruling (with new Nixon judges appointed), realizing it was absurd given that executions were commonplace at the time of the founding. Since that time opponents of capital punishment have taken a piecemeal approach, basically aiming to take capital punishment off the table in as many places as possible, and to make it prohibitively expensive where it's still available. For instance - you cannot execute anyone who was a "juvenile" at the time of the crime, or had an "intellectual disability." The idea is that the person couldn't have formed the requisite "intent," couldn't understand that stabbing someone to death is wrong. SCOTUS has also held that you can't execute a person who is insane at the time of the execution - even if he was perfectly fine when he did the deed. You can't execute anyone just for rape - even of a child - if the victim doesn't die. In normal cases where capital punishment is available, groups like the "innocence project" aim to file so many frivolous appeals that the person just dies in jail. The overall goal of this is to get proponents of the death penalty to throw in the towel - basically to get the 1972 SCOTUS ruling outlawing the death penalty reinstated through a long process of attrition. If they achieve that, they will then move on to outlaw things like "life in prison," arguing that this is also "cruel and unusual" no matter how extreme the crime because someone can "change." And that's all the more reason to fight back and give no ground. There is no arguing with these people because they don't really believe that some people are evil and don't belong in society.

Whenever I go into a coffee shop these days there's always college foids studying in pairs and their laptop will have a slide deck and it'll be like "What do humans need to survive? - Water - Food - Air" And they'll be nodding vigorously and taking color coordinated notes

If in 500 years no one speaks our language and humans are still sitting on earth with no way of understanding nuclear energy we will have failed to pass the great filter and it genuinely does not matter at all in the slightest what happens. We have ONE shot at getting off this rock. We need power now. Fuck the future that failed, we need to build one that wins.
David AttenBruh@AlHendiify

Now show us 10,000 years worth of safely stored waste and how you communicate to a society 500 years into the future that no longer speaks the same language that this is an incredibly dangerous material.
