@thatKellyCounts @FischerKing64 I remember riding the bus to detassel in the summers for 2 or 3 years. Built a good foundation. It was hard work, busloads of pretty young kids out on their own walking fields with barely any supervision doing their job and surviving. Good times.

@FischerKing64 Kids used to detassel corn during the summer in the Midwest. I don’t know how much interaction they got with adults, but they did learn a strong work ethic that is currently lacking.

I think teenagers should get stupid jobs in high school not just to learn about responsibility or to get pocket change - but because it forces normal human interaction on them. This seems especially important in an age of screens, with antisocial loner behavior on the rise. They might even find a girlfriend this way. Working as a janitor was often boring and even disgusting - but also hilarious. And it required interacting with a lot of weird people, learning to navigate that.

@offtopic_bob @matt_vanswol same, this is BS. went in for some costocondtritis pain years ago and the clinic insisted I needed a CT scan. In the end they gave me some prednisone and later a bill for over 10k.

A few weeks ago my wife went to the hospital for stomach pain. They did a CT Scan of her abdomen and thankfully didn't find anything serious. Today we got the bill in the mail: $9,117.42 Healthcare is broken.
