Born in Tottenham, London, on 23 April 1925, Alec was just 15 when war broke out.
He volunteered as a part-time air raid precautions messenger during the Blitz, then joined the Royal Navy in 1943.

This is religious exceptionalism that must end NOW.
Sikhs are demanding Britain allow them to carry the kirpan — a lethal ceremonial dagger — insisting it’s “absolutely essential” to their faith.
Yet Denmark, Italy, France and Belgium have all banned it outright, despite Italy alone hosting around 200,000 Sikhs.
One country. One law. No special carve-outs for any imported community.
