Expedition 33 reportedly cost less than $10 million. South of Midnight allegedly cost around $100 million. That's the kind of comparison that should keep executives awake at night. Because if a smaller team can make one of the most celebrated games of the year with a fraction of the budget, the problem probably isn't that games need more money.

Whenever there are layoffs at Xbox, journalists start freaking out and try to make us all feel bad about it That doesn't work anymore: 1- These studios have lived WAAAAY longer than they would have making these games on their own 2- Fans told Xbox EXACTLY the kinds of games we wanted and they didn't care So if they remove fat, fast track the games we want, and their teams learn that they need to focus on PLEASING fans, then I see all of this as a good thing

State of Decay 3 has been in development for 7 years, the development team has ballooned to about 135 people. Based on the developer being located in Seattle, the headcount, and the development time; they have to have spent $80-$120 million (if not more) on it. That's just for development. Marketing would add more. They're doomed.

🟢 South of Midnight est l'exemple parfait de l'excellent jeu #Xbox , génial sur plein d'aspects, mais qui ne rentre pas dans les canons "TPS AAA narratifs cinematique" que l'on connaît tous. Il n'en avait d'ailleurs nullement la prétention. Sauf qu'aujourd'hui, si tu es un jeu d'action/aventure, ton salut passe par l'application de ce template et de ses codes bien précis, omniprésents depuis 10 ans. Résultat : la presse l'a reçu tièdement, les rédactions l'ont écarté des nommés aux Game Awards (Direction Artistique, BO, etc... un comble), et les joueurs l'ont boudé. Tous les bons jeux n'ont pas besoin d'être des chefs d'oeuvre. Compulsion Games est un super studio, et j'espère qu'ils survivront à la logique business malheureusement aussi froide qu'implacable, et dont tant de studios ont souffert depuis 6 ans.
