Yes, I'm Muslim, but I've lived in the West most of my life until a few years ago.
Where are these marriages? Because I look okay, I have a very well-respected, well-known family. I'm educated, sometimes funny even. I try to be kind and humble myself, and I'm very single.
Honestly, jokes aside, I personally don't know anyone who is married to their relative. Doesn't happen in my family, but I know it's prevalent. They don't marry older adults with kids, but I'm sure it happens or happened, maybe in some village that I don't know of, but I swear to you it's a big crime here. That's not a regional problem; it happens across the Middle East, Asia, and beyond.
For some reason, Muslims find solace in marrying their cousins; it's fucked up. My cousins are either in the UK or the US, and they are all older than me, and I mostly want to punch them. Some of them are insufferable.
I can admit to the fact that a lot of marriages in Pakistan happen between families to keep wealth, lands, or business in the family. It's more of a transaction than a true marriage. These people don't have any family values. I'm Gen Z, and I thought my generation was fucked up, but universally, I see the generations after me are horrendous.
