This, combined with having a gun pointed at me on two separate occasions last summer (both by black people), and the fact that the share of murders in Washington DC committed by black people is without exaggeration LITERALLY 99% (johns hopkins school of public health study of crime data 2019-2022, as well as DC MPD homicide data) has made me less delicate when discussing the matter. It hasn't made me hate black people. But it has forced me to acknowledge that there is clearly a racial aspect to this, and tiptoeing around it is clearly not helping ANYBODY

@MallowTheQueen The issue is that it’s not just me, it’s the popular consensus. Loads of people played the beta and the free week and did not stick around, which is why people are suggesting ways for other people to experience the story you love. Making it more niche only hurts the story

I don't wanna put anyone on blast, but I saw someone say "I've never played Marathon, but it would be better with a single player campaign" and I actively lost brain cells

@MallowTheQueen I’ve played extraction shooters, including marathon, and they aren’t conducive to story in any meaningful way for me. They feel like roguelites but to just make you angry and probably get called a slur.

@Gleptpgz Whether or not you feel the game is for you, that's for you to decide. I can't change your mind on that. But I truly believe anyone is doing themselves a disservice by not approaching the game where it stands, rather than where they want it to be.

@MallowTheQueen They could’ve done a different story for the solo experience allowing the same thing, but also the points you are making are why it isn’t doing well. People don’t want to be shit on by a 14 year old with no life while trying to explore a world.

@Gleptpgz This could've been done through a solo experience, but it would lack the tension and exploration the current game provides. As well as this, the meta elements pull us further into the world, building a connection

@MallowTheQueen They could’ve still done that experience just in parallel with another story based mode/game to make people care. There isn’t a good enough hook.

@Gleptpgz Personally I think that wouldn't really work, because it goes against the narrative and experience Marathon26 is providing. Narratively, we're exploring a lost colony that's only been recently rediscovered, whilst trying to piece together the events that led us here.

@MallowTheQueen Tales from the Borderlands is a great game, if people hadn’t played Borderlands 2 and TPS a few years beforehand no one would have bought the game. Aside from the tell tale genre fans which is not a lot of people.

@MallowTheQueen Marathon the extraction shooter would have been far more successful if the marathon universe was reestablished in the modern mind somehow. And attempting to do that initially with a new concept in a niche market was not smart.

@MallowTheQueen These were all done in the midst of the regular games being made, on the side. Not as a revamp to a cherished IP. If they came out 3 decades after BL2 with Tales I would have been pissed.

@MallowTheQueen They took a campaign, story based IP made a shitty fad niche genre game and people rightly are pointing out it should have been a bit similar to the original IP. Or at least have a focus on its strong points, narrative.

@Gleptpgz I used the example of a game's core design being twisted to fit into a gameplay style it was not designed for, creating an awkward and disconnected experience. Marathon 26 REDESIGNED that core in the 30 years since the original trilogy. They simply aren't the same conversation
