its kind of an unfair bc soccer had 100s of Opta analysts running metrics on "build up play" and hockey has one Corey sznajder but one key finding from last post season is NHL teams would do significantly better in their own zone by playing puck movers instead of shutdown guys

The problem with the "late" read, is that it usually involves taking contact and is lower-success rate.
So there's an inclination for players (& coaches) to want to move the puck earlier and earlier when the defense is bearing down. Which has diminishing return & ultimate hurts

Defense = taking away space
Most defenses work like finger traps.
Offense can expand space early to beat the squeeze, or constrict the space further and use 2 quick plays to escape the trap

Stack Entries When teams don't have a three lane attack off of the rush & offensive players can work outside of the dots to manipulate the defenders and their rush sort out. D1 engages the puck or takes early speed through, D2 is tasked with a decision on his coverage and will rarely want to position themselves outside the dots opening up weak side ice. This creates space and time for the stack player picking up the drop

A top 2026 draft prospect was left off Finland’s U18 World Championship roster. The Finnish players’ association says it is bullying. The federation cites an “unclear situation.”
The Oscar Hemming U18 situation feels more like bullying and him being made an example of, rather than a country developing a young player.
