It was so nice for Dr. Bob Langer to give the Kam lecture at @utswbme and inspire a new generation of bioengineers! Fortunate to have his mentorship 30 years ago (like yesterday), and celebrating Bob with many Langer alumni (Dan, Andy, Binbin) on campus.

Qiang et al revealed cancer cells excrete protons into a polarized extracellular region, driving the pH below 5.3 @natBME. The severe acidity is toxic to T cells but not cancer cells, highlighting a tumor survival strategy against immune surveillance. rdcu.be/dAgFR

Many of us know that tumors have an acidic microenvironment. But how acidic is cancer actually? 🤔 Led by Qiang in @JinmingGaoLab, we quantified cancer acidosis using our robust ultra-pH-sensitive nanoprobes. We found acidic thresholds reach below pH 5.3! rdcu.be/dAjQ5
