It's a pros and cons thing. Sometimes you need to teach the WWE stle but also you may pick up NXT habits that kinda diminishes your gimmick and what made you unique to begin with. AJ was too popular to be sent to NXT at the time. Even Vince knew that. It'd be the same with MJF and Kenny.

Hulk made WCW enough revenue that they could offer wrestlers big contracts. Bret was the top guy in the WWF. Nobody was making that money because WWF didn't have profit.

I think it boils down to what Goldberg said about Bret. Jesse had a career outside wrestling. For Bret, wrestling is all he ever knew. You threaten that, you threaten his livelihood and identity. People cope differently. And to be fair, people keep asking for Bret's honest opinion and he's giving it to them.
