Read how alumna Kendra Carmon, PhD ’08, now associate professor at the Graduate School, turned imagination into impact with the support of scholarships and fellowships to study cell communication and drug discovery. She works with students in her lab to develop therapies to target and destroy cancer cells.

With support from the Dr. John J. Kopchick Fellowship, PhD student Peyton High is developing next-generation cancer therapies designed to precisely target tumor cells while sparing healthy tissues. Salk welcomed 10 future postdoctoral candidates to campus for the second annual Discover Symposium. They present their research, connect with other Salk trainees, attend panels to learn more about the Institute, and network with potential Salk faculty advisors to facilitate mentor-mentee pairing opportunities across disciplines of biology, a format not typically found in traditional postdoctoral interview formats. They also had the opportunity to participate in the annual Salk Volleyball Tournament and successfully got their team to the championship finals!
