@Brianstylee No way, you mean words get shortened over time for convenience?
English

@LabSound67745 What people dont know is why american football is called football. Just shorten gridiron football.
English

@AllenFO37317233 @NoblesLawFirm The UK only shifted away from using soccer in the late 20th century because it started to be perceived as too much of an Americanism.
English

@LabSound67745 @NoblesLawFirm our football came from Rugby Football. Soccer came from the UK. we imported that from them. when FIFA was establish, the UK adopted football.
English

@LabSound67745 When will Italy cease to refer to soccer / football as "calcio"?
English

@LabSound67745 Never. We didn't start it and it's not our job to finish it.
English

@Brianstylee It’s definitely a global word with deep roots in England, Canada, and Australia too.
English

@LabSound67745 English invented the word. But ask canada and Australia as well
English

@trevor454545 England used it for over 100 years before they decided they didn't like it anymore.
English

@JohnCoolTrivia US, Canada, and Australia kept using it to easily differentiate it from their own popular regional football codes. It is just a fun quirk of linguistic history
English

@LabSound67745 Fun Facts:
1) "Soccer Saturday" is a popular TV show in England.
2) The word "soccer" is an English word that means "association football" instead of "rugby football" and has been around for over 100 years.
3) Australia and Canada say "soccer" as well.
English

@LabSound67745 We already have accepted the metric system, only where it's useful though(global industry) and use imperical for daily use since it's more relative to how we feel. Should look into The Shipwreck of 1793 because it is why we don't use metric in the US funny story
English

@upperwestbruin It makes sense why they keep the names separate since American football is their biggest sport.
English

@LabSound67745 Never. Football is our most beloved sport. Soccer is 5th at best.
English

@LabSound67745 Never especially not after we played the socceroos that didnt help. We were taught it as soccer so the Americans that like it will call it that. We also have a national sport with the same name that's became much more popular in America.
English

@LabSound67745 When you stop using Imperial system to measure your pitch. Or when you stop calling them pints.
English

@dandixon95 Honestly, as long as everyone knows what game we're cheering for, who cares?
English

@LabSound67745 Don’t really see a reason to change. If I’m talking to Brits, I call it football. To Americans, soccer. To my Spanish-speaking friends, it’s futbol. In the end, it’s the beautiful game no matter what you call it.
English

@Trucker_Timothy Glad you’re loving the KC vibes! You make a great point about welcoming international fans. At least the stadium atmosphere never disappoints

Great games great people I live in Kansas City this has been incredible.
I am a little disappointed in Royals. I wish they would had some specials deals for people with foreign passports. It’s a beautiful place to watch a game and an opportunity to provide our guests with fun experience. They suck so it’s not like they would be out anything
