St. Symphorien Military Cemetery is located 2 km east of Mons, Belgium. Here, German and British casualties of the Battle of Mons lie side by side in a small space of peaceful reflection. Just under 230 Commonwealth and around 280 German soldiers are buried here; amongst the war graves are Private John Parr, the first British casualty of the Great War, and, interestingly, George Ellison.
