There are only two ways to define good when you're an executive. Either it's your own taste, or it's the taste of your audience. If you're using the first mode, you get something like Annapurna, which usually loses a ton of money. If you're using the second mode, well, that's already what all these studios are trying to do. It's their fiduciary duty. Even mini-majors like A24, which seem to be running off personal taste, are still aggressively catering to a demographic. It's like Trader Joe's. You just feel like the taste is inherent because you're within the target demo.
