Novel insights into the factors that shape insect gut microbial communities were found! Rogowska-van der Molen et al. demonstrate that N.viridula harbors toxin-degrading bacteria that could support its resistance to plant defenses.

We are on #mSystems @ASMicrobiology cover! @AnnaMichalik17's microphotograph shows a ball formed by specialized symbiotic bacteria within the oocyte of a planthopper. This is a stage in symbionts' transovarial transmission, dating back >300 my.
