We're taxing the rich" while using the billionaire's property as his personal prop to push a punitive pied-à-terre tax on luxury second homes. Big mistake. As CNBC's Sara Eisen reported, Citadel COO Gerald A. Beeson fired back in an internal email to New York employees, warning they may now pause the massive redevelopment of 350 Park Avenue. Beeson didn't mince words either: “It is shameful that he used Ken’s name as the example of those who supposedly aren’t carrying their fair share of the burdens associated with New York City’s often costly and wasteful spending. In doing so, the Mayor has once again manifested the ignorance and disdain of the elite political class towards those who have been consistently committed to building one of the greatest cities in the world.” He laid out the stakes clearly: “We are about to commence the redevelopment of 350 Park Avenue, creating 6,000 highly paid construction jobs and supporting the creation of more than 15,000 permanent jobs in mid-town New York. The project – if we move forward – will entail more than $6 billion dollars of spending.” This isn't some abstract threat. Griffin already employs thousands in NYC. He poured billions into the city and was ready to build the tallest office tower on Park Avenue. But after Mamdani's childish public shaming, why should he even bother? Griffin ditched Chicago for Miami over exactly this kind of toxic, anti - business bull shit nonsense. Miami rolled out the red carpet. New York just slammed the door in his face.
