I drew and rigged myself a Tomodachi Life VTube model for a thematic stream, just for fun .✦ ݁˖ It has a toggle with my silly fat cat, and viewers can tip to lift me up and shake me!!

No fr at this point i dont think they wanted solutions to not being able to upgrade...they just want things for free 😭 literally my post is an option that protects the issue that happened of not being able to upgrade or an end of service for MY clients not even them and there's still people crashing out over my terms just cuz im not saying I'll give it for free 😭

With the discourse on rig files, to my clients in particular that might be worried, this is how I handle it. Per my TOS, I will NOT provide the CMO3 file. That being said, if you need an upgrade/add-on that I am unavailable for, I have a list of rig friends that I trust to not abuse my files and provide good work of similar quality that I will provide you and connect you with. However, they are not allowed to then provide the file to another rigger. If another one is needed again, it will need to be another discussion with me involved. I do not wish for my work to be Frankenstein'd. In the case that I stop rigging forever and leave, I will make an announcement and you can contact me to discuss acquiring your model file then. But while I'm still going and kicking, I will not be providing my files.

You don't buy a meal and expect the recipe, or clothes and expect the sewing patterns. You don't get the molds with the figurines, the source code with the game, or the blueprints with the apartment... should I go on?
Wynterpuppy ♡Direwolf Dragon♡「Vulgradath Academy」@WynterpuppyVT

Riggers if I'm paying you to rig my model that file should also go to me. I PAID FOR IT. it is MY MODEL. Like what is this industry ? I pay THOUSANDS of dollars to not own the file of my own rigged model ????

@Z1netsu_0 Mate, you are talking about modifying a creative, technical work that is protected by copyright. The food and clothing analogies were about the distinction between the finished product and the production files you don't get access to. The image is my response which didn't fit💀

@Marzipanic_VT Mate, you compared it to being a meal, and maybe you didn’t know but recipes can’t be copyrighted. Also, that image doesn’t mean anything the way it is. Where is it from? Is it some website that dictates the industry standard for rigging?

@petitesymph Whether or not this is considered exclusive - it’s explicitly stated in the tos before anyone pays. If client finds these terms unreasonable, they have every right to take their business to a creator who operates differently.

@Marzipanic_VT Meals are consumed upon purchase, so no ongoing maintenance. Clothes and figurines can be repaired without the original patterns. Video games operate on a license, not ownership. Blueprints are available publicly to allow ongoing maintenance. Default exclusivity isn't the way.

@Marzipanic_VT Yeah, I can alter the finished product that I bought. If I paid for the model to be rigged then the finished product is a rigged model. Meaning that altering the finished product would mean being able to alter the rigging.

@Z1netsu_0 Yes, and you can modify a model without the rig file by recoloring the texture atlas (if the artist is ok with that) or adding assets. Modifying a meal or clothing means altering the finished product - it never gives you access to the resources needed to rebuild it from scratch.

@Marzipanic_VT When you buy a meal you are able to change the meal if you want. When you buy clothes you can alter them if you want. When you buy a figurine you can alter it if you want. When you buy a game you can mod it if you want.

@Marzipanic_VT You completely missed the point of this post. She doesnt want the file to look into it or leak the methods. She wants the file so someone else can continue updating her model. Her rigger started ghosting all of his clients, so even buying the file off of him is impossible.

@Arraveriii Her bad experience just proves that the field is full of bad actors, which is exactly why source files shouldn't be handed out freely. Imagine if a ghosting rigger had someone else's cmo file, they could easily modify and resell it.

>You can make your own molds from the figurines because you have the full one there And that’s precisely why riggers don’t hand out the files to make it easier for people to copy their work lol

@Marzipanic_VT You can always get the recipe You can see the sewing patterns You can make your own molds from the figurines because you have the full one there public information request the apartments blueprints Games are far, far bigger than a single rig.

@d3pending If you're stuck doing freelance where you give away your source files for free, that’s on you. I'm done wasting my time explaining basic industry standards to someone who relies on slurs lol

@d3pending The rigger isn't claiming ownership of your character. They're retaining the rights to their technical execution. The client gets the working asset to use the IP however they want. That’s how the freelance industry works, whether you like it or not.

@d3pending In a corporate work for hire (like a studio game/website), they buy out 100% of your labor, time, and copyright upfront - which costs massive corporate money. If you want the studio-level source files (.cmo3), you pay the studio-level buyout fee.

@Jade_shitpost You can reverse-engineer or find almost anything if you try hard enough, but you pay for the final product, not for the source files. You can analyze a finished rig to learn from it, but sharing the .cmo3 file isn't a standard practice

At the start of my journey, I (♀) considered drawing and rigging a male model but decided that a fem version would feel more ✨️𝓶𝓮 ✨️ Stream however you want. VTuber market is oversaturated - those who care can find other Vtubers for their taste.
✧ Nyssie † Horror VTuber ✧🔪👑@NyssieDeathrone

Do people find it off-putting when a male VTuber uses a female model? Is it an instant click-away for you, or does it depend on personality/content? I love my character, but I worry new viewers get confused on first sight and leave. What do you think?
