This week’s mission to Chad and the Central African Republic was defined by meaningful conversations with entrepreneurs, youth, and traders shaping Africa’s trade future. I commend both countries for their strong commitment and partnership as we work together to make the AfCFTA Secretariat deliver tangible results on the ground. I am grateful for the warm welcome and encouraged by both countries’ dedication to turning the #AfCFTA into real opportunities for their people. #AfCFTA #InclusiveTrade #Chad #CAR

Had a cheerful and robust engagement with my Ugandan grandparents, H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and H.E. First Lady Janet Museveni, in Kampala today. It was an honour to sit at their feet and learn from their wisdom and experience over the years as I also shared my work on the young people of Kenya, an initiative I will be spreading to other African nations in the near future. Well done friend, Go and Serve the people SC.
Charles Kanjama SC@ckanjama

This Thursday, we decide whether the Law Society of Kenya will drift under pressure or rise with structure, discipline and purpose. As this campaign closes, I speak to you not merely as a candidate, but as a colleague who understands the systemic pressures facing our profession, and the responsibility of leadership at this moment. This election is about stewardship. It is about restoring institutional discipline in the management of our finances and secretariat - ensuring transparent processes, predictable governance and systems that outlive personalities. It is about protecting the practice space - firmly confronting quackery, unlawful encroachment and the steady erosion of professional standards that threaten the livelihood of advocates. It is about expanding opportunity, not redistributing scarcity - strengthening ADR as a primary pathway, positioning advocates for emerging sectors such as technology, digital trade and green energy, and leveraging regional and continental integration to secure broader markets for our members. It is about structured skills development and mentorship - especially for the Young and Mid-Bar - so that entry into the profession is not survival by chance, but progression by design. It is about an LSK that is independent in defending the rule of law, disciplined in governance, credible before the Judiciary and *Government*, and respected by its own members. I humbly ask for your vote on Thursday, 19th February, 2026. Let us reclaim the dignity of our profession and secure a future where every advocate - from the newest admission to the most senior silk - feels the power of their Society behind them. The #TimeIsRIPE for a #StrongLSKForAll. Charles Kanjama SC LSK Presidential Candidate

Yesterday at @StateHouseKenya Nairobi, I had the honour of leading a multi-agency delegation from the Ministry of Co-operatives and MSMEs Development to present the Committee of Experts’ Report on the Transformation of the SACCO System in Kenya to His Excellency @WilliamsRuto, C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya. This landmark report marks a major milestone in our journey to strengthen the cooperative sector as a pillar of inclusive economic growth. It reflects our shared resolve to build a SACCO system that is resilient, transparent, well-governed and fit for the future. The Committee was appointed in April 2025 under my Ministry to review the SACCO Societies Act and recommend reforms that align our laws with emerging trends, global best practices, and the evolving needs of members. Their work responds directly to the realities facing millions of Kenyans who rely on SACCOs for savings, credit and livelihoods. At the heart of these reforms is the harmonization of SACCOs to strengthen governance, efficiency and sustainability. I am grateful to H. E President @WilliamsRuto for recognizing this submission as a significant step in transforming the SACCO industry. This is not just a policy exercise; it is about protecting members’ savings, restoring confidence, and ensuring that cooperatives remain people-centred, professionally run and future-ready. I also commend the strong institutional leadership present during the submission, including Hon. Patrick Kilemi, CBS, Principal Secretary – State Department for Co-operatives; David Obonyo, Commissioner for Co-operatives; George Ombado, Executive Director, ACCOSCA; David Mategwa, National Chairperson, KUSCCO Ltd; and CPA David Amiani Sandagi, Acting CEO, SASRA, among many others who continue to champion reforms in the sector.

Today H.E. @WilliamsRuto, launched the NYOTA Start-up Capital disbursement for Siaya, Kisumu and Homa Bay Counties in Kisumu. The first tranche of the funding was given to more than 1,700 youths from Siaya. Following this important intervention the County Government of Siaya will waive business permit fees and other charges to incentivise the beneficiaries.

The @LawSocietyofKe is deeply concerned by images of Police officers lobbing teargas at congregants taking part in a church service in Othaya. The indiscriminate use of violent force against church-going citizens, including children, offends every constitutional principle under which the @NPSOfficial_KE is bound to operate. This onslaught on the right to religion, freedom of association, human dignity, freedom and security of the person and the right of children to be protected from all forms of violence is detestable. We condemn this incident, which betrays the Kenyan people's collective call for an end to police brutality and indiscipline. There is no ascertainable threat posed by church congregants against peace, law and order to warrant such a brazen attack on not just the sovereign people, but also the supreme law of our land. Such incidents pose a damming threat of undermining tolerance and cohesion as we approach another high-stakes electioneering period. We call upon the National Police Service to issue an immediate, clear explanation of the circumstances leading up to the abhorrent events in Othaya, and a full report on the actions it intends to take against the perpetrators. It is high time firm action is taken against the weaponisation of state machinery against the people. We will be coordinating with our Advocates on the ground to understand the full extent of violations that occured, and establish whether there are any members of the public in need of legal support following the incident.

Willis Raburu
Willis Raburu@WillisRaburu·
Titles, Positions, and the Illusion of Power Many people in corporate and public offices confuse the power of the institution with their own personal brand. When I used to be introduced as “Willis Raburu, Citizen TV,” the dominant brand was not Willis Raburu. It was Citizen TV. The platform amplified the individual, not the other way around. My boss, Wachira Waruru, or "coach," as we call him, always told me one thing that has stuck with me over the years and that I tell upcoming journalists and media personalities. He said, "Never take for granted the platform you have and the opportunity to come on TV daily in front of millions and say your name!" This distinction matters. Too many office holders, executives, and senior managers mistake access for authority, perks for permanence, and proximity to power for personal relevance. They don't realize that once the name of the organization is taken off your title, you cease to exist. Very few people build a name beyond the brand . Dr. James Mwangi, Bob Collymore , Michael Joseph, Jeff Koinange are a few notable names that have built their names into brands. This is important because we have our work and our purpose. So here is the uncomfortable but necessary question: If the organization fired you today, would you still be able to afford your life? The respect? The influence? The seat at the table? If the answer is no, then the brand you’ve been living off is not yours. The real work: building a name beyond the institution. So that when we say we take the institution's name away, you're still standing for something. Strategic communication at a personal level requires the same discipline as institutional communication: What do you stand for outside your job title? What value do you carry that is transferable? What reputation follows you when the letterhead disappears? Are people loyal to you or to the office you temporarily occupy? History is clear on this: Institutions outlive individuals. Titles expire. Offices rotate. Only personal credibility, skill, ethics, and independent relevance endure. So don't think that you are using your space and title to make someone's life miserable; you are replaceable. Just work so that after you get the axe, or move on. Your name still stands for something.

This morning,I presided over the Governors’ Breakfast Meeting with leaders from the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi. The meeting brought together Governors and representatives from across the bloc to review preparations for the upcoming Cooperative International Conference, scheduled for 4th–6th December 2025 in Kisumu County, under the theme “Empowering Communities through Cooperative Innovation and Sustainable Development.” I was pleased to be joined by H.E. @SpeakerKLusaka, Governor of Bungoma County, and H.E. Prof. @AnyangNyongo, Governor of Kisumu County, while other counties were ably represented by their officials. The Ministry of Cooperatives and MSME Development, is keen to strengthen the synergy between Cooperatives and MSMEs, recognizing that when cooperatives are empowered, MSMEs are empowered thus creating jobs, and lifting our people out of poverty. I thank our Governors and the Lake Region Economic Bloc for their continued partnership as we work to build a cooperative-driven economy that delivers shared prosperity for all.
