This is @Astro_Christina’s to-do list for today. Today I will also do my hair, wait to put on comfy clothes and try to sneak to the gym. The other stuff, less relatable 🙃 Make us proud up there girl! We will be waving from really, really far away.

Come with us. The sun is up, the bush is alive, and Natibu and Mwinzi are heading out into Kaluku for their morning walk. Kaluku sits at the heart of a 5,000-acre buffer zone bordering Tsavo East — a pocket of wilderness threaded through with the Athi and Mtito rivers. For two young bulls still learning the landscape, it is a very good place to grow up. There are things to investigate, things to eat, and — depending on how the morning goes — things to attempt to climb. Meet our Kaluku herd of orphans: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/r/kaluku-herd

@SpaceInMiBrain Yeah that was a very preliminary version of it, there's been about 20 minutes of reshoots / additions thanks to great questions and ideas. And still adding a bunch of animations for it to all make more sense

Hope you like a million numbers, spreadsheets, the rocket equation and animations… cuz you’re about to learn why Starship HLS is… well… so big and requires so many refilling trips. Hoping to get it wrapped up before Artemis II returns! Wish me luck!

@Noirchick1 I remember watching a grown man openly bawling, just totally letting go, during Schindler’s List. Yes, he was wearing yarmulke… Witnessing his public reaction was so genuine and unforgettable.

@grantbonin I’m watching this, thinking I’m gonna write a comment complaining about how I’m halfway through this and Prince is still in the shadows and completely ignored by the cameras… Oh…

@usairforce Wow, this post sent me down a memory-trip rabbit hole: I pretty much grew up on Maxwell AFB! My dad did two long tours there, something like 9 years total, in fact I was born in Montgomery…

In contested environments, logistics can limit operations. Air University is exploring how space-based solar power could reduce that burden, support distributed forces & increase mission resilience. Learn how: dvidshub.net/r/updco7

@JoelSercel IMHO the major, predictable flaw in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is the annoying Teen Angst, which TV writers can’t seem to avoid when there are multiple teens involved. It has ruined many great shows mid-run (eg TWD) and new shows not premiering on The CW (eg TWD: World Beyond).

I think Star Trek Strange New Worlds and Picard Season 3 had some great episodes. Discovery (STD for short), and that latest show about the Montisory School for kids with emotional problems in space… not so much. This sequence just shows how Next Generation got things done. Good writing by people who actually lived enough to know what to write.

I know this is Star Trek, but it's a great case study in leadership. Every boss eventually needs to have this talk with a senior employee at some point in their career. Sometimes you have to remind people who is in charge.

One of the neat demos I saw today was @AlbaOrbital showing off the attitude control on their satellite. This is in the PocketQube form factor - 5cmx5cm cubes, so smaller than a 1U cubsat.

ok so the rosie story was even more insane than it looked > be the australian tech guy who made a cancer vaccine for his dog > first try: genetic algorithms to design a new drug from scratch > works in simulation but would take years to test > second try: screen 1 million existing compounds against the mutation > two weeks of computation. find a perfect match > it's patented > patent holder says no to compassionate use > what_did_you_expect.jpg > spend two weeks just being with the dog > 2am idea: what if i just make a vaccine > chatgpt for pipeline, gemini for construct, grok for validation > 300 gigabytes of raw sequencing data to half a page of vaccine construct > university ethics approval would take until mid-2026 > dog doesn't have that long > panik > canine cancer expert connects him to a lab in queensland with existing approval > drive 14 hours to get there > inject > three weeks later the tumors swell. immune system swarming > six weeks later shrinking > two months later legs returning to normal > one mass doesn't respond > sequence it again > different cancer. the vaccine worked. the body grew a new tumor he's now building a company so every dog owner can do this he had the technology the whole time. he spent 18 months fighting for permission to use it

@SawyerMerritt Newsom was completely silent or worse regarding the treatment Elon got at the hands of mostly deranged Democrats. He could have acted like a leader and helped Elon, but he didn’t. We won’t forget.

Gavin is acting like the leaders in California didn't have a heavy hand in driving Elon away.... Gavin Newsom on Elon Musk in new interview: "One of the great disappointments. It breaks my heart. I got one of the first Teslas off the line. I've been one of their biggest proponents. It was regulation that created the conditions that allowed him to take the risk to become the multi-billionaire, or trillionaire, that he's become." In May 2020, then-Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez posted, “F*ck Elon Musk,” to which Elon replied, “Message received.” Tesla started building their Giga Texas HQ soon after.

@whatjonsaid @SawyerMerritt Newsom has fought every CA bill targeting billionaires that progressives have proposed. Show me one actual example where he’s supported “billionaires bad” - come on, just one example! You’re confusing your politicians - you must be thinking of Sen. Warren…

@SawyerMerritt Outcomes not words. The sooner the problem is admitted the sooner it can be addressed. It’s time CA incentivizes entrepreneurs to come back with pragmatic romanticism. “Billionaires bad” policy isn’t the win he thinks it is here.

@SawyerMerritt Lorena Gonzalez is not a “leader” in California. She’s just one of 80 Assembly members in the state who occupies the progressive nut-job end of the spectrum. You give her too much credit.

@vast From that minimally conceptual new module/hub render what Isaacman is proposing looks just right for your Haven-1 to mount itself onto. Or a modified version of Haven-1.

Vast is ready to meet NASA's call for ensuring America's continuous presence in low-Earth orbit. We look forward to learning more details about NASA's proposed approach. Vast has always believed in reducing risk through a stepping stone approach. We are well-positioned to provide space station technologies and services to NASA having secured 100% mission success with Haven Demo and with substantial progress already made toward our Haven-1 launch early next year.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman@NASAAdmin

NASA is building on 25 years of continuous human presence aboard the International Space Station. Before its decommissioning in 2030, we intend to:     - Increase support for commercial crew PAM and cargo missions to the ISS  - Maximize research missions in low Earth orbit with commercial potential - Help industry mature technical and operational capabilities - A future where NASA becomes one of many customers for commercial stations    America will work with industry and our international partners to ignite a sustainable orbital economy. We will never surrender our presence in low Earth orbit.
