Patrice Motsepe, Africa’s first Black billionaire, has seen his net worth plunge by $800 million in less than five months. This dramatic reversal drags his fortune down to $3,6 billion from a January peak of $4,4 billion, driven by a brutal selloff in precious metals. The drop exposes the raw volatility shaking the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). It proves that even the most formidable empires are at the mercy of global markets. Motsepe’s core mining investments are taking the heaviest hits, serving as a stark reminder of how quickly paper wealth can evaporate when market sentiment turns cold. Consider the damage to his primary holdings: Harmony Gold shares skyrocketed, then plummeted. The nation's largest gold producer, where Motsepe holds an 11,8% indirect stake crashed over 36% in just four months. African Rainbow Minerals took a massive beating. The diversified mining giant, anchored by Motsepe’s commanding 43,66% stake, erased nearly 30% of its value. This painful retreat mirrors a broader global commodity slump. Bullion prices are buckling under the weight of shifting Federal Reserve interest rate expectations and erratic geopolitical tensions. Yet, true visionaries rarely keep all their eggs in one basket. Demonstrating the emotional resilience and strategic foresight that defined his rise, Motsepe is already pivoting. He continues to aggressively diversify his empire through African Rainbow Capital, anchoring his future growth in disruptive digital banking assets like Tyme Group. Markets fluctuate, but true builders adapt.

🔴 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT 🔴 The Mozambican government has repatriated 719 Mozambicans from South Africa. This took place a week ago. Mozambique has described the situation in South Africa as "xenophobic". It is estimated that more than 300,000 Mozambicans live in South Africa. The government says it will monitor developments and, if attacks and killings continue, they will send few buses to fetch its citizens.

A Malawian man has set social media ablaze after making a shocking statement regarding the ongoing calls for foreigners to leave South Africa. According to him, he says that he did not arrive in South Africa with any children. Instead, he claims that the children he has in the country were born after he settled here. He went on to say that if foreigners are being forced to return to their home countries, the children he leaves behind can be adopted or raised by South Africans if they choose. "I never came to South Africa with children. The children I found here and fathered can be adopted by South Africans if they want. As for me, I will go back to Malawi."
