Cambois beach today. Spotlessly clean, and a handful of people social distancing. Restored my faith after scenes in Whitley, Cullercoats and Tynemouth this week.

The signs in the valley are big and bold but still...

@euanlynn @TWhitleyBay1 Phoned the cops for the first time ever yesterday. 20 or so teens congregating in the Brier Dene; acting like knackers. Normally see one or two dog walkers or bird watchers. Huge rise in antisocial and irresponsible behaviour this week.

Frustrated to see, for a second day in a row, virtually no acknowledgement of social distancing from most people out in Whitley Bay. Large groups, especially teenagers, people forcing their way into use closed facilities. All sense of collective responsibility is gone.

The valley recently has become the busiest we have ever seen it. Someone described it as busier than Glastonbury yesterday. We understand people like green spaces but this week all our hard work trying to protect breeding wader bird habitats has become increasingly difficult
