I'd argue the real issue is that there is no minimum standard for integration, nor any requirement for anyone to integrate at all.

Time and time again, I get appalled when I see people vexed because magic is used as a final resolution in a fantasy story. Like what were you expecting in a fantasy story where magic abounds?

@belladonnafeli Though I disagree with their overall point, I do think there is some truth to protagonists having victories they didn't earn because of some magical Deus Ex Machina.
Magic is important to fantasy, but it should not be an alternative to clever writing.
