I worked to keep my place just as nice as everyone else when I was a member of one. Now I keep it nice because I like it. I can also paint my house any color I chose, mow my yard or plant it in wildflowers, build an experimental solar array or put up a wind generator. Keep your HOAs, I'll take freedom.

All the rich people I know love living in places with HOAs. No broken down boats. Rainbow yard signs. Grass 2 feet tall. Lack of weed control. Broken fridge on front porch. Broke people hate HOAs because they hate doing basic things to make their houses look nice.
