I made another 4KB Executable Graphics piece (A 4KB exe that renders a still image in 30 seconds). This time for Outline 2022. "Orders of Magnitude" pouet.net/prod.php?which…

@jlongster @jimmyhmiller Yes. That is probably more correct. The output colours are really not defined in the (negative) invalid regions, I just wanted to have some vague representative colour there. Another options to increase the valid area drawn is to add a constant "ambient light" factor everywhere.

@P_Malin @jimmyhmiller That makes sense! I poked around that code. I had tried that here: #fill-demo" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">jlongster.com/why-chromatici… But I was clipping invalid colors. Seem like you basically allow invalid colors, clip it to the shape of the curve manually, and do some manual white point tweaks

Why does the chromaticity diagram look like that? I've always wanted to understand color theory, so I started reading about the XYZ color space which looked like it was the mother of all color spaces. I had no idea what that meant, but it was created in 1931 so studying 93-year

@jimmyhmiller @jlongster There is then some stylistic choice in the final intensity to use for the colour, hence the variations of INTENSITY_METHOD in the shader.

@jimmyhmiller @jlongster You can transform xy to XYZ by choosing an arbitrary intensity to use (i.e. specify a value for Y). This shader uses 1.0. Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIE_1931_… "The X and Z tristimulus values can be calculated back from the chromaticity values x and y and the Y tristimulus value."

@markmoxon At what point does this turn from being written by Ian Bell and David Braben into the majority written by Mark Moxon 😀

@geofflath @Kweepa @rheolism Yes, I saw that post and tried it in owlet. Great stuff. The mastodon bot is in beta at the moment and replies are manually approved so there is a delay. I think it will be automatic soon.
