It was absolutely incredible to have the honor of giving the “Mendel Lecture” at the Augustinian Abbey in Brno, where Mendel lived and worked. While Mendel is the greatest hero of genetics, the lessons from his story were never learned. Back then, it took almost 40 years for his work to be discovered, and even today, science dissemination and communication remain flawed. We must improve our ability to find and evaluate science and recognize that the most important discoveries may emerge from non-prestigious research institutes and appear in non-glamorous journals or magazines.
