CTV at the Marilyn Gladu Convention "This sort of is like the Marilyn Gladu weekend here at the Liberal convention." "We're told she's gonna be around a lot, she's gonna be talking to delegates and she's gonna be part of this convention." "So some very interesting comments and I don't think this is going to be the last we hear from Marilyn Gladu again. She's going to be here all weekend." "Although interesting to note, she spoke to her local paper yesterday, the Sarnia observer, and said that she always saw herself in the center of the political spectrum." "Anyway"

None of that matters now. The only objective is to win at all costs. Once you realize Canadian politics isn’t about the betterment of our country and people, it’s easier to accept that the people who walk the halls of power are solely focused on their own interests. 🇨🇦

Forgot this one... A legit question might be whether Gladu would have made it through the party's background check before getting the green light to run as a Liberal candidate.

@Nasdad_TO There seat belongs to the people and the values, policies and banner they ran under that caused people to vote for them, If they want to change that, than a new election should be held to see if the people agree with their new found choice.

In the Westminster parliamentary system, Members of Parliament (MPs) are constitutionally independent representatives. They may choose to affiliate with a political party, but their seat belongs to them personally, not to the party. In principle, MPs are free to vote according to their own judgment, their conscience, or the interests of their constituents.
Pierre Poilievre@PierrePoilievre

Mark Carney is seizing a costly Liberal majority that voters denied him, and doing so through backroom deals. In January, MP Gladu said that floor crossers should face voters in a byelection to give voters the final say. I could not agree more. She should do so. The people in her community voted for our Conservative vision of a Canada that is affordable, safe, and strong at home, not for the costly Liberal government she has now joined. She should honour her word and let voters decide.

@SpencerFernando But they aren't suppose to work on behalf their own opinions, they work for their constituency who choose which party's values speak to them and that majority of people then decide which way the riding leans. She stripped them of their voice for her own interest.

@christoaivalis Liberals don't actually care about abortion though. They are just ships being tossed around in the ocean; they do whatever powerful men tell them.

@cselley As frustrated as I am with floor crossings in general & how these actions are creating a majority gov voters didn’t vote for…. I’m not heartbroken to lose this particular MP. They can have her. Wait til they get to know her. LOL

What exactly do the Liberals want to do that they can't do now that would necessitate recruiting Marilyn Gladu, of all people?

Reflects poorly on both. Gladu for obvious reasons. But if ever one needed proof that Liberal principles are first and foremost about the acquisition of power and not a coherent set of values and perspectives, it's accepting an unapologetic conservative like Gladu into caucus
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

At this important moment for our country’s future, Canadians with a broad range of experience and perspectives are uniting to build Canada strong. I am honoured to welcome Marilyn Gladu today as the newest member of this government and our Liberal caucus. In a time of global economic uncertainty, Canada’s success will depend on how we build ambition into progress and strengths into sustained advantage. Marilyn brings the practical, results-driven leadership this effort demands. Having spent decades of her career in engineering and international business, she understands what it takes to create good jobs, strengthen supply chains, and ensure Canadian industry can compete in a rapidly changing global economy. She has been elected by the people of Sarnia—Lambton–Bkejwanong in four straight elections since 2015, and repeatedly earned recognition from colleagues across Parliament for her proven willingness to work constructively across party lines. I’m looking forward to working closely with Marilyn to build a stronger and more independent Canadian economy, meeting the challenges of a changing world with lasting opportunities for all.
