Hayek is the Marx of the 20th century, both in terms of depth and in terms of influence; the left *has* underestimated him, although this article is not representative of the best; the bottleneck in which Marxism finds itself in the digital age is directly related to this failure
Steven N. Durlauf@sndurlauf

This post by @NathanJRobinson is not correct and does his policy stances no favors. 1. Hayek's ideas about the role of prices in information aggregation way that decentralized systems can achieve mass desirable outcomes are profound ones, are widely admired by economists of all orientations. IMO this idea represents one of the great insights in economics. Further, the import of Hayek's critique of socialism was recognized at the time *by socialists*. Oskar Lange's work on market socialism was meant to demonstrate how a socialist economy need not suffer this loss of information. John Roemer's A Future for Socialism, 1994, takes Hayek's critiques extremely seriously. It also takes seriously various responses to Lange.
